Bits & Pieces: Cosy Autumnal Homeware

August 31, 2018

I’m reluctant to say it, but Autumn is definitely coming. There’s a definite chill in the air and the mornings are getting darker. It’s hard to say goodbye to what’s been an unexpectedly beautiful, hot summer but weirdly I always welcome Autumn. Maybe it’s a throwback to starting school but I always feel inspired and full of creativity, ready to make plans, cross off my to-do list and make the most of the last months of the year. It also makes me want to nest; light spicy scented candles, snuggle under a blanket, watch You’ve Got Mail (does that film give anyone else crazy Autumn vibes?) and carb load – although to be totally honest I could happily carb load all year round.

For me, nesting also means switching up my home. I love bringing a touch of all the seasons into my home decor, whether that’s by introducing citrus scents in Summer or fresh flowers all the time in Spring. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change, just changing key colours and textures can make a huge difference. When it gets to Autumn I’m all about making my home cosy and welcoming. This means changing up cushions and bedding and adding blankets to pretty much every sitting surface in the house. That’s why when Soho Home got in touch to see if I’d like to collaborate on a post about their gorgeous cushions I jumped at the chance. I thought I’d put together a little mood board of some of my favourite autumnal cushions from their collection, as well as some other home decor pieces that easily bring a little touch of autumn to your home.

I chose a typically warm, autumnal colour palette of berry reds, golds and creams. The teal cushion adds a welcome contrast and works perfectly with both the gold and berry cushions. I’m a sucker for tartan and layered with chunky knit blankets or cushions it gives the perfect cosy autumnal vibe.

And we all know I love a good wreath. If you don’t have the time or inclination to make one though, Etsy is full of beautiful options.

If storage for extra cushions, blankets and seasonal decor is an issue, then I highly recommend these fab vacuum storage bags – just fill up with your cushions, vacuum it down small and pop under a bed until next year.

Do you like changing up your home decor with the seasons? Any top tips? Let me know in the comments. 🙂

Love, Sarah x
