Maya Angelou quote brush letter art (with free printable)

Hello everyone, I’m back with another free printable brush lettering guide. This Maya Angelou quote seems very appropriate for how I’m feeling after taking a mini-blogging break. I really do feel full of ideas and inspiration and with the long sunny evenings I’m getting more and more bursts of creativity. 

I’m a big Maya Angelou fan and I love this quote, so when Random Olive offered to create a free printable brush letter practice guide for my readers I knew this would be a great quote to use. I really want to spend some time working on a version of this brush letter artwork to hang over my desk.

As always I used my Pentel Aquash water brush* in medium to follow the practice guide, this time, instead of ink, I used simple Windsor and Newton watercolour palette*. I have really found that following the instructions found in Random Olive’s comprehensive brush lettering guide* have helped me get the hang of brush lettering and I’m excited to start putting together my own phrases and quotes for pretty artwork. I’ve even found it comes in handy when doing pretty lettering on envelopes – all my friends appreciate the extra touch. 

This final version is one I did without the guidelines or line spacing to work from, it took some practice but I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It’s surprisingly easy to improve freehand brush lettering skills with only a little practice.
